I started life as a standard IBM 2139 Aptiva E5D home computer - top of the line for the
year I was bought (1998?). In bone-stock form I have the following configuration:
- Pentium 2 MMX processor running at 400mhz and 512 Level 2 cache
- Motherboard with 100mhz bus speed
- Hitachi GD-2000 DVD-ROM drive at 2xDVD & 32xCD read speeds
- 8gb hard drive in 5.25" form factor
- 64mb of SDRAM memory
- On-board ATI 3D Rage Turbo Pro AGP 2x video & 4mb SyncGraphics memory
- On-board Crystal Clear WDM MPU-401 compatible sound
- Infinity speakers
- Windows 98 operating system
- 56k v.90 modem
As time marched on (or FLEW on as is the case in PC technology), I became outdated and
acquired some upgrades, as follows:
- Upgraded the CPU to a Pentium 3 MMX processor running at 600mhz and 512 Level 2 cache (MAXXED OUT!)
- Upgraded the DVD-ROM drive to a NEC ND-1300A DVD±RW drive 4x2x12 DVD & 16x10x40 CD speeds
- Added a Cendyne CD-RW drive 52x24x52 speeds
- Upgraded the hard drive to an IBM Deskstar 120gb hard drive (8gb drive is OUTTA HERE!)
- Added a Western Digital Caviar 45gb hard drive
- Upgraded to 384mb of PC100 SDRAM memory (MAXXED OUT!)
- Upgraded to Windows 2000 Server Operating System - NTFS drive formats (Win98 is OUTTA HERE!)
- Added a Winnov Videum AV PCI Video Capture card (for webcam and authoring)
- Added an IBM 10/100mb PCI Ethernet adapter on internal network running at 100mb full duplex
- Upgraded to 6.1mb DL/768kb UL routered internet connection (56k modem is OUTTA HERE!)
- Upgraded to a 19" NEC Multisync 95 Monitor
I thought my time here serving as the primary PC was limited. I expected to be replaced by

Instead, I was kept on until replaced by the HP Windows 2007 64-bit machine that hosts me now (since November 8, 2009).
